With its beautiful Spanish colonial architecture and sandy beaches lined with restaurants, El Salvador has all the assets of a dream tourist destination. Yet foreign visitors are rare. The reason: this tiny state in Central America is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Every year, between 3,000 and 6,000 people are murdered, with a population of only 6 million. Updated situation: In March 2022, the Government of El Salvador declared a “State of Exception” in response to an uptick in homicides committed by gangs. The State of Exception grants authorities the power to arrest anyone suspected of gang activity and suspends several constitutional rights, including the normal protections of criminal procedure, such as the right to a speedy or fair trial. Tens of thousands of individuals are currently held in prison under the State of Exception. Individuals imprisoned under the State of Exception do not have access to due process. Several U.S. and other foreign citizens have been detained under the State of Exception, remain in prison, and have yet to face trial. Prison conditions are harsh. The State of Exception remains in effect, and we urge U.S. citizens to be cautious. @ Country Summary: While crime remains a concern in El Salvador, there has been a significant reduction in gang-related activity and associated crime in the last two years. This includes drops in violent crimes and murders. U.S. government employees may travel throughout the country during daylight hours. Largely due to infrastructure concerns, U.S. government employees may not travel between cities or departments after dark, except for the route between San Salvador and El Salvador’s international airport and between San Salvador and La Libertad. This video is definitely "old" now that these gangsters are getting cleaned up, but it's good to preserve this content for those that will forget why the heavy hand was needed. El Salvador used to be absolutely 100% controlled by gangs, people were murdered all the time, and you couldn't safely go out at night. Now people can actually live their lives and have a chance at enjoying each other and their country. They actually have freedom.

Old video.. that countries president took it to them and pretty much destroyed them and their system. On another topic. Those ganags found in Guatemalan, El Salvador, Honduras, etc. are and were exported by the United States! I grew up seeing numerous gangs in Los Angeles. The 18th Street gang was one them.. I remember when MS 13 came to be just west of downtown Los Angeles, MS 13 is a product of the wave immigrants that came from el Salvador when that country was in a sense having a civil war. The 18th st. Gang used to target the salvadorians resulting in them give birth to MS 13. This gangs can't function in Mexico due to cartels. Cartels wiped them out within days when they attempted to do so.
I mean, I don’t blame him for crossing out the name you know you join a gang and when you go to prison, they’re not there for you. They’re not supporting your family. They’re not sending you money. They just use you.
They need to learn a skill or a trade, for those that will be released back into society, otherwise its hard to change, if they are unable to find a job, survive or have upward mobility..
This documentary has to be old, pre-Bukele days. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that this documentary is from 2019. That makes sense cause El Salvador is one of the safest countries on the planet right now, a huge turn around from when this was all filmed.
How long ago is all this? Bukele has imprisoned most of the gangs and the ones that are left have fled to neighboring countries or the US because of the Democrats' criminal friendly immigration policies.
What is the point of all those blurry images. I mean, with the blurry images those documentaries are pointless, those days everything seems to be offensive and sensitive.
